Results‑Based Management: Focusing on Real Impact

Results‑Based Management (RBM) is the approach used by SOS Children’s Villages in Burundi to ensure that its programmes create meaningful and lasting change for children, families, and communities.

Rather than focusing only on activities, RBM places the emphasis on the results achieved, the positive changes in people’s lives made possible through our interventions. It helps us plan better, use resources more effectively, and make decisions based on evidence and learning.

RBM strengthens accountability and transparency, allowing us to answer key questions:
Are we doing what we planned? Are we making a difference? And are we learning and improving?

Since 2017, SOS Children’s Villages has adopted RBM as a standard programme management approach. In Burundi, this has contributed to stronger programme quality, improved reporting, and recognition through the RBM AWARD, reflecting a strong culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.

By keeping results at the heart of everything we do, RBM helps ensure that our work delivers sustainable impact and truly serves the best interests of children.

SOS Children’s Villages provides children with alternative care, where necessary, and where families of origin are not the best place for children to grow up.

With strong and healthy relationships, each child and young person can grow up with the trust and sense of belonging that is essential for them to become their strongest selves. Our quality care puts their individual needs and best interests first, and provides them with a nurturing and stable family environment. If it is in the best interests for a child to return to their family of origin, we actively support this.
