Empowering our children and young people with ICT skills
In year 2021, SOS CV Bujumbura programme purchased 14 desktop computers with the DHL GoTeach budget. These 14 machines had been placed in the digital room of the village (commonly called the community room). The room is connected to Internet. Children, young people and SOS parents are trained in that digital space.
Bujumbura High School has its own digital space connected to Internet and equipped with 40 desktop computers. The space is vital for school students to practice fundamental ICT learnings.
In 2022, through the extension of the school of SOS Village Cibitoke (construction project), the school also benefited a digital space room equipped with 20 All-in-One desktop with technical specifications of 8GB RAM memory, 256 GB SSD storage fully funded by SOS CVW.
The ICT space in Gitega is equipped with 26 computers among them 11 laptops were donated by the SANCTUS association, 9 laptops returned by collaborators in August 2025 and recently in November 2025, 6 tablet laptops (4 of the brand HP Elite x2 G4, 2 of the brand HP Elite x2 G8 Tablets) donated by the donors of SOS CVW.
From 2016 to 2019, the Muyinga primary school purchased 7 desktop computers to provide students with skills in computer science and new technologies using its own operating budget. Since 2021, through a partnership with the association "Promoting Human Life by Bridging the Digital Divide (PH Life)," under its program named "Digital Unify in Burundi", the SOS Village in Muyinga has received a donation of 11 Lenovo laptops to strengthen its IT resources. Through this partnership, trainers are trained in basic computer modules. A backup power system, consisting of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and 4 batteries, was also installed in the computer room.
From 2016 to 2021, 15 desktop machines were gradually purchased and placed in the digital room of the Rutana school to provide computer and new technology skills to its students. These computers were purchased from the school's own operating budget. The Rutana SOS Village strengthened this digital space by adding 7 laptop machines returned by collaborators of the locations. In total, the digital space has 22 computers, all in good working condition.
Since September 2024, SOS Children's Villages in Burundi has launched training programs in computer skills for its beneficiaries (Children, Youth, and Mothers and Aunts). ICT Coaches have been recruited in all 5 locations of SOS CV Burundi (e.g. Bujumbura, Cibitoke, Gitega, Muyinga and Rutana) and are working to deliver a training programs for 4 categories of program participants as follows:
- Level 1: 4th to 6th year of Primary school.
- Level 2: 7th to 9th Year of secondary school.
- Level 3: 1st to 3rd Year Post-Fundamental school.
- Mothers and Aunts follow their own program of training.
