Health Programme: Caring for Health, Strengthening Communities.
SOS Children’s Villages in Burundi contributes to the improvement of public health and community well‑being by providing accessible and quality healthcare services in its areas of intervention. The organisation operates four medical centres located in Bujumbura, Rutana, Gitega, and Cibitoke, serving both programme participants and surrounding communities.
The Health Programme combines curative, preventive, and promotive healthcare. Medical centres place strong emphasis on health education, maternal and child health services, vaccination, family planning, and the promotion of responsible sexual and reproductive health, particularly for young people.
To reach a larger number of patients, SOS Children’s Villages has developed an outreach strategy through secondary health posts, bringing nursing and medical consultations closer to communities. The programme also plays an active role in the fight against HIV/AIDS, providing voluntary testing, prevention activities, counselling, psychosocial support, and care for people living with HIV.
Through these integrated health services, SOS Children’s Villages in Burundi helps ensure healthier children, empowered families, and more resilient communities.
