Early childhood development

Giving children the best start in life

he Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme of SOS Children’s Villages in Burundi provides quality preschool education through kindergartens in Bujumbura, Cibitoke, Gitega, Muyinga, and Rutana.

ECD supports the holistic development of young children: cognitive, socio‑emotional, emotional, physical, and language skills within a safe, inclusive, and protective environment. Through play‑based and child‑centred learning, the programme prepares children for a successful transition to primary education, while promoting well‑being, confidence, and early learning foundations.

Aligned with the strategic framework of SOS Children’s Villages, ECD contributes to the protection of children’s rights, the strengthening of families, and the prevention of future vulnerabilities through early investment in child development.

We take the side of children and young people.

Society's most vulnerable, especially the weakest, need a strong partner - unconditional, passionate, courageous and all with emphasis. This determination is necessary and effective. We are committed to young people who cannot live with their parents as they are exposed to massive unequal treatment and we provide them with improved training opportunities after the end of compulsory schooling. Equal rights for all young people, no matter where they come from.
